The ranking by Crittenden's Insurance Markets' Property/Casualty Ratings (July, 2001) was based on a survey conducted among 500 agents and brokers randomly polled nationwide by telephone and fax. Agents rated 25 carriers on accessibility and timely response to inquiries; competitiveness on premium pricing; and efficiency and fairness on payment of claims. Cincinnati led all companies in the first category and in the overall rating. Using a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 meaning "best," Cincinnati rated an overall score of 1.77.
